Oh yeah I've accepted it. I’d say my life’s gone back to where it was, obviously I’m a few years older but socially I’m acceptable.
Have you accepted your dentures?
Oh yeah I’ve accepted it. I’d say my life’s gone back to where it was, obviously I’m a few years older but socially I’m acceptable, not a lot of my friends know I’ve got false teeth, and you do learn to live with it.
I think the one thing that I do remain fairly conscious of is the need to see your dentist, and I quite regularly, well not quite regularly but once a year, I ring my dentist and say “Do we need to look at this palette?”, but it’s because I still probably have a consciousness about the changing shape of my face as a result of the gum receding. So you’ve got to keep on the case, you’ve got to be aware of the impact of your denture on your life.
How has Poligrip affected your life?
Poligrip gave me my confidence back, you know, all the reasons that we’ve talked about - the ability to eat, and eat properly and feel like I’d got real teeth. It gave me my public confidence back, the ability to smile at people to communicate with people. After the initial loss of confidence Poligrip gave me my life back.
Do you have any hints or tips to give other denture wearers?
Listen to your dentist and really the adaptation, it depends whether its progressive or instant I suppose, but your dentist, and obviously now (as we said earlier) there’s a lot more information about, with the internet alone you know we’re not reliant on TV advertising, you can actually use the search engine to get information.
