Jean talks about Considering Dentures

How did you find out you needed dentures?

I started off with a partial denture top and bottom. By the time I was 40 I had a whole mouthful of artificial teeth and it’s never bothered me. I have to say it has never bothered me at all. I kept having toothache and it really was getting on my nerves. And I thought I’d be much better off having – I had about seven out on the bottom at the last count and then about three or four out at the top, and then as you wake, you’ve had the fitting done for your new teeth and as they take your teeth out you go home with your teeth already in.

How did you feel about your tooth loss?

I don’t think I ever looked back – I was a little uncomfortable for a few days but nothing to worry about.

How seriously did you consider alternatives?

No I didn’t, I just thought well dentures and that’s it and I honestly haven’t looked back. Having had – I must have had three or four, even five years of having toothache here, well everywhere. So really the decision was mine and I made up my mind that’s what I want to do and I’m jolly glad I did, I have to say I am glad.

Did you have any concerns?

Wondering whether I was going to manage I suppose, wondering if they might fall out – obviously I was a little bit apprehensive but you would be wouldn’t you really?
