It just kind of feels a bit odd, taking your teeth out at night, the cleaning.

What was it like when you first got your dentures?

It just kind of feels a bit odd, taking your teeth out at night, the cleaning… I’m not particularly keen to let other people see that, but you know it just quite quickly becomes part of your routine, and it’s just like cleaning your teeth.

Did they affect the way you ate?

The thing I had most trouble with is sandwiches, because the sandwiches stick to the denture and drag it off the roof of my mouth, and then you end up with a denture floating around in your mouth and a mouthful of food, and probably sitting in front of somebody - it’s not a great place to be!

Did your dentures affect the way you talked?

There was quite a bit of lisping, and funny “s” to start with as your mouth gets used to the change in shape, which took a few days to get used to.

When did you start using a fixative?

Over the first month it’s always going to be a bit difficult to know what the result is going to be so you just have to persevere really. And then, discovering Poligrip made quite a big difference to me actually, because it just meant that I could have the security that the teeth would stay in place, and just made eating in public possible basically.
