People have their teeth extracted for various reasons, so the main reason is going to be a neglected dentition, they haven’t paid enough attention to their teeth over the years, or they could be weak to start off with. In whatever case when you lose your teeth you’re going to want to replace them probably with something.

How do you prepare for having your teeth extracted?

It’s really not as bad as you think, it’s not a major operation, you’ll find that you will get through it and we can help you get through that. It’s often a psychological issue for them that, is like my grandparents had dentures and they’d put them in the glass on the side of the side table and I don’t want to be like my grandparents, but really modern dentistry is not like it was all those years ago.

What options are available to patients?

You’ve got various options of filling up gaps when you’ve had teeth out, the first one is going to be leave the gap and do nothing about it, occasionally people do take that option, if they don’t really mind. The second option is probably going to be the cheaper option which is dentures, and you can get a very realistic and natural looking denture that will fill the gap, but it is removable, you need to take it out at night time, this worries some people.

You might be able to have a bridge which is a fixed denture in the mouth, it doesn’t come out, it’s slightly more expensive perhaps, but again it looks very natural, but you do need to drill some teeth to actually get the bridge made.

The last option is implants, it’s quite expensive, that’s the modern alternative and with an implant you can either have a denture on it or you can have a bridge sitting on it.
