How should my dentures feel?

It’s never going to feel exactly like your natural teeth, however, most people do get used to dentures within a month or two, and they forget they’re wearing them most of the time. If they feel loose your gums might have shrunk a little bit after the extractions, for instance. Or, if you lose weight or if you’re ill, you might lose weight off your gums as well. If you’re in hospital, for instance, your gums might shrink, and therefore your denture might get loose, in which case you might be able to have a reline of your denture, or you might want a new denture.

How can Poligrip help?

If your dentures are loose and you have a gap in between your denture and your gum, having some Poligrip under the denture will fill that gap. I give patients a demonstration of how to use a fixative. With an upper complete denture you want to have three dots of fixative, they should be pea-sized amounts, maybe slightly bigger, it shouldn’t ooze out of the side of the denture.

How should I clean and care for dentures?

Brush it, and leave it to soak overnight, and then put it in in the morning after rinsing it under a tap. I recommend a separate brush for your denture and a separate brush for your teeth. A denture brush is ideal because it’s got stiffer brushes than a toothbrush. Give it a really good scrub and then run it under the tap and then leave it in to soak.

After fitting will I need to get my dentures adjusted?

Usually after the dentures settled in you won’t need a further adjustment, but if there’s any problems at all, always contact your dentist or your clinical dental technician.
